Founded July 3rd 1997 (born on the 4th of July) from humble beginnings in a small 4000 sq. ft. warehouse next to the Englewood waste water treatment plant (a smell you will never forget) Cost Plus Electric Supply set up shop. In order to save money at the beginning Dave and Eric Hardin cleaned out the furniture repair shop that previously leased the 2680 S. Platte River location, that got us 1 month of free rent. Next we located a great used office furniture supplier, (the dumpster down the block) and secured our first executive desk and swivel leather chair. We constructed our electrical counter from collected scrap wood and purchased used racking from a bankrupt retailer. For deliveries we acquired 2 used vehicles from a wholesaler lot for $500 bucks (a 1986 mini-van, and a 1984 pickup that had been in a fire). Nothing was too good for a quality delivery look. Our first shipments of supplies were purchased from other electrical wholesalers and resold to turn our money. When we opened we had nothing in stock, no open vendor accounts, and no customers on our books. Most contractors had more material in their vans than we had on our shelves.
Today, Cost Plus Electric Supply operates from 4 locations across the Denver metro area. We service vendors from around the world and a million dollar plus inventory. Our trained staff of 20+, uses the latest technology to communicate with our ever expanding customer base, as we move into our 20th year of business. It was not easy but the growth of Cost Plus Electric Supply has been a life changing experence. Our success is word of mouth referrals, and our inspiring customer support.
